Gender Affirming Letters

Gender affirming letters are documents often required for people seeking gender affirming medical care. They are written by a mental health professional who has conducted a biopsychosocial assessment with the client and attests that the gender affirming medical procedure the client is seeking is “medically necessary.” They are often required by insurance companies and medical providers.

​Our goal is not to figure out if clients are “trans enough.” Our goal is to write our clients the strongest letters possible to help them access the medical care they have decided is right for them. The process is often inherently invalidating. However, we try to make the experience as affirming as possible despite this. When clients tell us what their gender is, we believe them. Nobody knows your gender better than you do. We are here to support you in moving toward a life of wholeness and authenticity.
