Education and Experience
For most of my life, I’ve been drawn to creativity, self-expression, and the ongoing exploration of what happiness is. Along the way, I’ve worked as a graphic designer, painter, English teacher and translator in Germany, and DJ (to name a few). Along the way, I’ve come to see that both joy and pain can be teachers, and that discovering what we don’t want can be just as valuable as discovering what we do. These experiences ultimately led me to the path of becoming a mental health counselor.
I completed my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Prescott College earlier and aligned with their holistic approach which included a nature-based counseling focus. My studies in trauma and crisis have been some of my favorite and laid the groundwork for working with a trauma-informed lens and understanding that everyone’s response to trauma might look different. I completed my practicum and internship at the Espanola Family Wellness Center in Espanola, New Mexico, where I worked with a diverse range of individuals and presenting concerns.
I work with individuals and couples and I am in the process of completing Gottman Level 1 training for couples. My interests include anxiety, trauma (child abuse & neglect, CSA, narcissistic abuse, as well as complex and relational trauma), depression, and dissociative disorders. I am a lifelong learner and love that counseling provides the opportunity to constantly learn and grow.
My Approach to Counseling
The first of Buddhism’s Four Noble Truths is sometimes translated as “Life is suffering.” While this does not encompass the full human experience, pain and suffering are unavoidable parts of human existence. Learning to understand and navigate suffering, exploring possibilities for change, and cultivating acceptance of what cannot be changed strike me as fundamental goals of counseling. I consider myself fortunate to accompany my clients through their darkest moments while exploring facets of light.
I offer an integrative approach to counseling that is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential therapy, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). My work is trauma-informed and rooted in a strong relational approach. I value honesty and authenticity, and I’m known for being direct while remaining compassionate – something many of my friends and clients appreciate about me.
